According to a report by DailyMail, a 14-year-old student shot three classmates before taking his own life in a tragic school shooting in Brazil.

The incident took place at Escola Municipal Dom Pedro I in Heliópolis, where the teenager opened fire on his classmates.

The victims, identified as Jonathan dos Santos, Fernanda Gama, and Adriele Ferreira, were 15 years old.

Another nine students and a teacher in the classroom were unharmed.

Investigations underway on the origin of the weapon and possible motives of Samuel Santana Andrade

Police chief Thiago Cunha mentioned that the father of the attacker, Samuel Santana Andrade, did not know how his son had obtained the weapon.

The revolver used was a .38 caliber, but authorities have not yet determined its owner.

Officials are analyzing Samuel Andrade’s cell phone and laptop for possible clues about his motive.

Elisângela de Sousa, mother of one of the victims, stated that the attacker was a close friend of her daughter and the other two victims.

“They were very good friends and attended church together every Sunday,” said de Sousa.

The local government announced that psychologists and social workers will be available to support the affected students and teachers.

An official statement expressed condolences to the families and promised to create a safe environment for everyone.

The school community remains in mourning as they cope with this devastating tragedy.

According to media outlets like EFE and Infobae, school shootings in Brazil have risen alarmingly in recent years.

From 2002 to October 2023, 31 armed attacks were recorded in Brazilian schools, resulting in the deaths of 36 people, including 25 students and 4 teachers.

Notably, in 2023 alone, at least eight attacks occurred in educational centers, representing nearly one-third of all cases recorded over the past two decades.

This increase is alarming and has prompted authorities to implement measures to improve school security and address the underlying causes of this violence.
