A grand jury formally indicted 14-year-old Colt Gray and his father, 54-year-old Colin Gray, on Thursday for the shooting at Apalachee High School.

The incident occurred on September 4 at a high school in Winder, Georgia, where four people, including two students, were killed.

The formal indictment means there is sufficient evidence for both cases to go to trial, with the teenager facing 55 criminal charges and his father 29.

The indictments were issued a day after the teenager appeared before the court.

During that hearing, agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Barrow County investigators testified.

They provided details about what they described as Gray’s plan to kill multiple people at Apalachee High School.

The agents highlighted drawings made by the teenager, which they described as an «obsession» with school shooters.

Colt Gray opened fire with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle at the Georgia high school.

He killed four people, including two students and two teachers, and injured nine others, for reasons still unclear.

However, it appears he was motivated by a desire to replicate the 2018 mass shooting at a school in Parkland, Florida.

Colin Gray purchased the weapon for his son as a Christmas gift in 2023, along with ammunition, a larger magazine for the rifle, and a tactical vest, according to the investigation.

This took place just a few months after the teenager had been investigated for allegedly threatening a school shooting online, an incident for which he was questioned alongside his father.

During that interrogation, the teenager denied being responsible for the threats, and his father stated that they had weapons at home but kept them secure from the son.

These events ultimately led to the arrest of Colin Gray, who was also charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, among other charges.

Colin Gray, like his son, could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.

The attack carried out by the younger Gray took the lives of 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Ángulo.

As well as those of 39-year-old math teacher Richard Aspinwall and 53-year-old teacher Cristina Irimie.
