Rosendo Benítez, an exemplary father and grandfather, was murdered by three young people in front of his house while he was trying to protect his family. The McAllen Police Department (MPD) arrested Amador Sandoval IV, Sandra Edith Morales and Carlos Gustavo Macías Mora as alleged perpetrators of the crime.

The patriarch, 53-year-old  Rosendo Benítez, allegedly confronted the group as they were committing a series of armed robberies in his neighborhood in McAllen, Texas, in the southeastern part of the state. Benitez was shot to death for protecting his family and his community.

Amador Sandoval IV, 17 years old; Sandra Edith Morales, 18 years old, and Carlos Gustavo Macías, 18 years old, are being detained in the Hidalgo County prison, in Texas. They are charged with felony homicide and car theft. Another boy has been detained but his name cannot be revealed because he is a minor.

The crime of homicide — like the one faced by Amador Sandoval IV, Sandra Edith Morales and Carlos Gustavo Macías Mora for having shot Rosendo Benítez to death — is punishable by a sentence of 20 to 99 years in prison for whoever is found guilty of that crime according to the Texas State Penal Code.

The arrest warrants against Amador Sandoval IV, Sandra Edith Morales and Carlos Gustavo Macías Mora were consulted by MundoHispánico. They reveal that the three are accused of the shooting death of Rosendo Benítez in a crime that has outraged the McAllen community.

At 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, residents of a neighborhood in the southeastern metropolitan area of ​​McAllen, Texas, called the police to report a shooting. MPD troopers responded and arrived to 2900 West Pecan Avenue where they found Rosendo Benitez.

The first officers who arrived at the scene of the shooting on West Pecan Avenue found Rosendo Benítez lying in the street, very badly wounded by several bullets. The police officers requested the presence of the paramedics from the McAllen Fire Department (MFD).

However, Rosendo Benítez passed away in the emergency room although the doctors fought to save his life. Officers from the MPD Homicide Division then took up the case to investigate the death of the patriarch of a large family.

Initially,  detectives of the MPD Homicide Division discovered that the alleged murderers of Rosendo Benítez had escaped in a 2018 Ford Fusion. They also learned that the vehicle was involved in several other house robberies in that area of ​​McAllen.

The 2018 Ford Fusion was the first clue to solving the murder of Rosendo Benítez. The MPD Homicide Division discovered from their colleagues at the Mission Police Department (MPD) that the Ford Fusion had been stolen on January 27 in that Texas city.

After several days of investigation, detectives from the MPD Homicide Division discovered that Carlos Gustavo Macías Mora allegedly stole the 2018 Ford Fusion. He used it to drive from Mission to the neighboring city of McAllen with two other young people.

The MPD Homicide Division arrested Carlos Gustavo Macías Mora for the theft of the Ford Fusion. However, during the interrogation, young Macías Mora revealed that his accomplices Amador Sandoval IV, Sandra Edith Morales and the other boy had participated in the shooting of Rosendo Benítez.

The testimony of Carlos Gustavo Macías Mora allowed the detectives from the Homicide Division of the MPD to later arrest young Sandra Edith Morales. The girl revealed all the details of Rosendo Benítez’s murder and implicated Amador Sandoval IV and the minor.

Amador Sandoval IV told the authorities that they had stolen the Ford Fusion with the intention of committing a series of house robberies. He said when they were robbing the McAllen homes they ran into Rosendo Benítez who confronted them so that they would not rob his house.

The death of Rosendo Benítez is just one more case of gun violence in the United States. The non-profit organization National Gun Violence Archive, reported that so far in 2022, 4,227 people have already been shot to death.

As of Sunday, February 6, 2022, of those people shot to death in the United States, a total of 1,785 were killed and 2,442 committed suicide. 3,177 people were injured. The country has already experienced 40 mass shootings in which at least four people died in the same crime.
