Mourning in the Obama family, Michelle’s mother Marian Robinson dies

The Obama family announced on Friday the death of Marian Robinson, mother of former First Lady Michelle Obama, at the age of 86.

In a statement, the family informed that Robinson passed away «peacefully» on Friday morning.

«As a sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend to so many, she was loved beyond words by countless people whose lives were enriched by her presence,» declared Barack and Michelle Obama, Craig and Kelly Robinson, and their children.

«She passed away peacefully this morning and, at this moment, none of us are sure how we will move forward without her,» the statement read.

It’s worth remembering that Marian Robinson was a well-known figure in the White House during the Barack Obama administration from 2009 to 2017.

Robinson spent much of those years caring for her granddaughters, Malia and Sasha Obama. The family did not disclose additional details about the cause of death.

Robinson was born and raised in Chicago, one of seven siblings. She spent most of her life in Chicago before moving to Washington DC following Obama’s electoral victory.

In her youth, Robinson trained to be a teacher and later worked as a secretary. She and her husband, Frasier Robinson, raised Michelle and her other son, Craig, on the South Side of Chicago.

Marian Robinson moved to the White House in 2009, providing essential support to the Obama family. Her presence was fundamental during the years of Barack Obama’s administration.

Robinson took on the role of caring for and guiding Malia and Sasha while their parents fulfilled their duties. Her dedication and affection became evident in her close relationship with her granddaughters, according to BBC.

Similarly, Marian Robinson was known for her discretion and constant support for her family. She never sought the spotlight, but her influence was deeply felt.

Her life in Chicago was marked by education and hard work. Robinson made significant contributions to the community while raising her children.

«My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed,» wrote the former first lady on her Twitter account.

«She was the same constant support for our whole family, and we are heartbroken to share that she passed away today. We wanted to offer some reflections on her remarkable life,» she concluded.

In another statement posted on X, former President Barack Obama said that «there was and will be only one Marian Robinson.»

«There was and will be only one Marian Robinson. In our sadness, we are uplifted by the extraordinary gift of her life. And we will spend the rest of our lives trying to live up to her example,» reads the post.
