In tandem, De la Fuente highlighted efforts to strengthen Mexico’s consular network in the U.S. during his visit to El Paso, Texas, where he met with Mexican nationals.
This initiative responds to concerns stemming from Trump’s recent threats of mass deportations and accusations that Mexico isn’t doing enough to protect its citizens.
De la Fuente stated that President Sheinbaum has issued clear instructions to coordinate actions and provide comprehensive support to migrants, especially those facing potential deportation.
He emphasized the importance of providing legal counsel to help Mexican nationals defend their rights against deportations and other legal challenges.
One of the main measures implemented by the Mexican government is the simplification of consular procedures. This initiative has been well-received by the migrant community.
De la Fuente noted that this simplification improves access to services and reduces the bureaucratic hurdles that have historically complicated migrants’ lives.
