A prosecutor in Indiana invoked the Laken Riley Law to deport an undocumented immigrant.
Domingo Juan Juan, a Guatemalan citizen, was residing in Indiana without legal authorization.
In March 2024, he was driving without a license and crossed the centerline on U.S. Highway 50.
His vehicle collided head-on with that of Brad Castner, a 27-year-old, who died on impact.
Indiana Prosecutor Orders Deportation Under the Laken Riley Law
Jackson County Prosecutor Jeff Chalfant invoked the new law to order Juan Juan’s deportation.
According to Chalfant, Domingo Juan Juan was not speeding and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The only charge applicable under Indiana law was driving without a valid license.
The immigrant had two prior offenses for driving without a license.
Previous court rulings had granted him diversion programs due to confusion regarding his identity.
The Laken Riley Law, passed in 2024, allows the deportation of individuals convicted of certain serious crimes.
It was the first law signed by President Donald Trump after taking office.
The law covers offenses such as robbery, assaulting law enforcement officers, and crimes resulting in serious injury or death.
Chalfant cited this legislation as the basis for ordering Juan Juan’s removal from the country.
Congresswoman Erin Houchin praised the prosecutor’s decision and criticized Biden’s immigration policies.

She stated that the law now allows the expulsion of «dangerous illegal immigrants before they commit more crimes.»
Houchin also commended ICE’s role in securing the deportation of Domingo Juan Juan.
Brad Castner’s sister, Kendra Castner, remembered her brother with deep affection.
«Brad was incredible—the best brother and the best uncle you could ever have.»
«He was kind and sweet to everyone. Everybody loved him,» she said.
