Kris Kristofferson dies at 88, a music legend

Kris Kristofferson, a Rhodes Scholar with a masterful songwriting style, has passed away.

He became a country music superstar and a sought-after Hollywood actor.

Kristofferson died on Saturday, September 28, at his home in Maui, Hawaii. He was 88.

Kris Kristofferson passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, added Ebie McFarland.

As is often the case with such events, no cause of death for the artist was provided.

Starting in the 1960s, the musician from Brownsville, Texas, wrote classics such as «Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down.»

He also wrote «Help Me Make it Through the Night,» «For the Good Times,» and «Me and Bobby McGee.»

Kristofferson was a singer, but his songs became more famous through the performances of others.

Among them were Ray Price singing «For the Good Times» and Janis Joplin belting out «Me and Bobby McGee.»

Alongside Ellen Burstyn, Kristofferson starred in Martin Scorsese’s 1974 film «Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.»

He also starred in «A Star is Born» with Barbra Streisand in 1976 and appeared alongside Wesley Snipes in Marvel’s «Blade» in 1998.

Willie Nelson stated in November 2009 that there was no «better living songwriter» than Kris Kristofferson.

«Everything he writes is a standard, and we’re all going to have to live with that,» Nelson added.

In addition, Kristofferson was a boxer and football player in college. It is said that his legend was larger than life.

Finally, in 1973, he married songwriter Rita Coolidge, from whom he divorced in 1980.
