The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency received 175,000 applications for its new large-scale recruitment program. So far, 5,000 people have been hired, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who shared the information on social media.

ICE Recruitment Is Part of a Plan to Strengthen Homeland Security

According to Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Tricia McLaughlin, the goal is to add 10,000 new agents under Donald Trump’s administration.

“It’s encouraging to see patriots willing to uphold the rule of law and defend our land,” she said in statements to Breitbart.

The DHS is offering a $50,000 signing bonus and has removed age restrictions — now, anyone over 18 can apply. The agency also launched the “Defend the Homeland” campaign, featuring ads on streaming platforms and digital media to boost ICE recruitment in the United States.

The DHS has an estimated budget of $75 billion, with $30 billion allocated to operations. The department projects a pace of 1 million deportations annually, positioning ICE as one of the most powerful law enforcement agencies in the United States.

Civil organizations have denounced an increase in abuses and wrongful arrests, including cases where U.S. citizens were allegedly detained by mistake. They are demanding greater oversight and clear protocols to ensure civil rights protections and fair legal treatment.
