Debanhi Escobar’s father gives good news about his missing daughter

The father of Debanhi Escobar, the Mexican girl who went missing in the state of Nuevo León, has good news about his daughter. Yesterday, videos held by the State’s Attorney General’s Office were key to giving hope to Debanhi Susana Escobar Bazaldúa’s family.

The family is now more hopeful of finding the young woman alive, as some clues to her possible location have been found, according to Agencia Reforma. After speaking for almost 12 hours with state authorities between Friday and Saturday, the the young law student’s parents began searching in the municipality of Hidalgo and a sector near the North International Airport.

«We have a lot of faith,» says Debanhi’s father

«My wife and I have a lot of faith thanks to the information we got yesterday (Friday) and it’s already been eight days. But we’re still fighting, we’re not going to rest until we find our daughter,» said Mario Escobar, the young woman’s father.

«All the videos that have already been released by the Prosecutor’s Office were shown to us,» he said. «Those that have nothing to do with her were discarded, but they did show us many videos where there are indicators that we could be able to find Debanhi.”

How they’re looking for the missing Mexican girl

A caravan of more than seven vehicles, led by Debanhi Susana’s father and escorted by a Civil Force patrol car, left the city limits of Escobedo and Apodaca at 11:42 a.m. They arrived at the building of the Secretary of Public Security of Hidalgo an hour later.

With the search card stuck to their windows, the vehicles also crossed the Salinas Victoria and El Carmen headwaters, according to Agencia Reforma. Upon arrival, they handed out flyers and pasted Debanhi Susana’s photo on poles in nearby streets.

“I know they saw her here”

«There is a reward from the State Government, whatever you know, I know they saw her here,» the young woman’s father told a motorist to whom he handed a flyer. It’s the same message that he repeated to other drivers. Along with the search in Nuevo León, the State Prosecutor’s Office is following up to three lines of investigation by different entities hoping to find Debanhi.

“We already have two, three lines of investigation out there that are currently being corroborated in three states of the Republic,” reported Debanhi’s father. In addition, officers from the Civil Force, volunteers and relatives continued the search for the 18-year-old girl this morning.

Where was Debanhi Escobar last seen?

Debanhi Escobar disappeared at dawn on April 9, in Escobedo. On Easter Sunday, the search focused on a vacant lot that is in front of the Nueva Castilla Motel on the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway.

Mario Escobar, Debanhi’s father, pointed out that the area is close to where she was last seen. Some volunteers brought dogs to help the search, according to Agencia Reforma. Previously, relatives, authorities and volunteers went to search in different areas of the Zuazua and Salinas Victoria municipalities, and even in a sewer.

The search focused on a sewer

The sewer is located a few meters from where Debanhi was last seen. For now, the investigation continues and her whereabouts remain unknown. Four hours after a manhole was drained with pumping equipment and a hydro-excavator machine, Debanhi Susana’s family has ruled out anything being in the sewer. It was located on the sidewalk between Vía de Baleares and Vía de Galicia, on one side of the highway towards Nuevo Laredo.

«There was like a drain or a register without a cover and the Prosecutor’s Office has already completely ruled out (findings). We have already verified, my wife and I, fortunately she’s not there. That gives me more hope that my daughter is still alive,” explained Mario Escobar.

«I thought I was going to find my daughter»

Elements of state Civil Protection, the canine search team called «K9», ministerial agents, at least 15 uniformed Civil Forces and Water and Drainage workers participated in this operation, according to Agencia Reforma.

Before arriving at the scene, the family led a search supported by dozens of volunteers in Zuazua, where they combed vacant lots and checked warehouses after receiving reports on social media. Escobar said “I thought that because it was Holy Thursday I was going to find my daughter. We are not going to rest on the search,” he added.
