  • Serious problem with Ford vehicle batteries
  • Affected models: Bronco Sport and Maverick
  • Risk of accidents due to unexpected stops

Ford Motor Company has announced a major recall affecting 272,817 vehicles in the United States.

The decision was made after identifying a serious issue with the 12-volt batteries installed in certain models, which can degrade suddenly and cause a total loss of electricity.

This could lead to the vehicle unexpectedly stopping while in operation, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.

According to documents published this Thursday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect affects the Bronco Sport models from the 2021-2023 years and Maverick 2022-2023.

Both models were manufactured at Ford’s assembly plant in Hermosillo, Mexico, a key facility in the production of these popular vehicles.

The defective batteries, manufactured between February 5, 2020, and October 20, 2022, have a production defect that makes them susceptible to degradation without warning.

As a result, all electrical accessories, including emergency lights, could stop working suddenly.

Moreover, the loss of power could cause the vehicle to stop completely, even in active traffic conditions.

Danger to drivers

Ford has emphasized that this situation represents a serious danger to drivers and passengers, as well as to other road users.

For this reason, the company has taken immediate steps to resolve the issue.

Ford dealers will inspect and replace the batteries in the affected vehicles free of charge.

This review process aims to ensure user safety and minimize the risks associated with this defect.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also issued a reminder to the owners of the affected models.

Urging them to contact their local Ford dealer as soon as possible to schedule the necessary inspection and replacement, according to Efe.

This incident highlights the importance of recall notices and staying informed about safety notifications issued by car manufacturers and regulatory authorities.

Ignoring these warnings can have serious consequences, both in terms of safety and future costs.

Ford has reiterated its commitment to safety and customer satisfaction, ensuring that it will continue working to prevent similar defective batteries issues from occurring in the future.

Such actions also reinforce the importance of regular maintenance and following the manufacturers’ recommendations to keep vehicles in optimal operating condition.
