According to the BBC, Nydia González, the head of operations at American Airlines, was in the middle of a ‘very important’ call.

For over 20 minutes, she spoke with Betty Ong, one of the flight attendants on Flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles.

This was the first plane that would ultimately crash into the World Trade Center in New York City.

Betty was the first person to report to authorities that the planes had been hijacked by terrorists.

It didn’t take long for air traffic controllers to notice that something was wrong with the plane’s trajectory.

Right at the time of Betty Ong’s call, they realized that the plane was drastically off course.

Minutes later, the plane made a 100-degree turn to the south, heading for New York City. The suspicions were correct: it was a hijacking.

«Okay, my name is Betty Ong. I’m number 3 on Flight 11. And the cockpit is not answering their phone, and there’s somebody stabbed in business class,» the flight attendant said.

After several minutes of conversation, Nydia González asked Betty Ong if she knew anything else about the men in the cockpit.

In total, five terrorists hijacked the plane. One of them, Mohammad Atta, took control of the cockpit and began to fly the plane.

Before the aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center, the hijackers turned off the transponder.

Because of this, the emergency agent could no longer communicate with the hijackers. The worst was yet to come.

American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the Twin Towers. Both were Boeing 767 aircraft.

The first plane carried 76 passengers and 11 crew members, totaling 87. Five terrorists took control of that flight.

In total, four planes were hijacked, and their goal was to crash into the World Trade Center, the Capitol, and the Pentagon.

In addition to Atta, Abdulaziz al-Omari, Wail al-Shehri, Satam al Suqami, and Waleed al-Shehri were part of this mission.
