The pro-immigrant organizations Hispanic Federation and Poder Latinx, among others, filed a lawsuit last year against the «unconstitutional» provision of Florida SB 7050.
The law imposed a fine of $50,000 for each non-citizen who «collects» or «handles» voter registration forms on their behalf.
«The restrictions included lawful permanent residents…» the press release stated.
«…many of whom have long-time, close ties to the communities in which they reside.»

«[T]he noncitizen provision in SB 7050 is unconstitutional, discriminatory, and goes against the very fabric of U.S. democracy,» Frankie Miranda, president and CEO of Hispanic Federation stated.
He applauded the court’s decision.
It is also important to note that this decision not only has legal implications, but also political and social ones.
It also highlights the importance of protecting the rights of all residents, especially those who may be disadvantaged due to their immigration status.
