The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, is pushing to access the tax records of millions of Americans.

The measure aims to eliminate fraud within the IRS tax system.

However, it has sparked concerns among IRS employees and privacy experts.

Critics warn that this access could endanger citizens’ privacy, especially if misused for political purposes.

DOGE is attempting to gain access to the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), used by the IRS.

This system allows the IRS to review, update, and communicate tax information to taxpayers.

The system contains highly sensitive personal data, including: Social Security numbers, Home addresses, Income details and Tax debt information.

Such data exposure could pose a serious security risk to individuals.

Despite DOGE’s efforts, the White House has not clarified how this data would be used.

Musk has defended the measure, claiming it is essential for tax justice and the country’s economic well-being.

However, fears persist that this access could be weaponized for political purposes, rather than solely for fraud prevention.

Critics of the Trump administration worry that the information could be used against them or for partisan advantage.

Elon Musk has publicly criticized federal judges who have blocked his decisions.

He has also, without evidence, accused federal employees of defrauding taxpayers, further increasing skepticism.

Recently, a federal judge blocked DOGE’s access to the Treasury Department’s payment system.

The ruling followed a lawsuit filed by attorneys general from 19 states, who argued that granting such access would violate privacy and security protections.
