Officers from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, south of Atlanta, Georgia have a tremendous story to tell their children. Last week a group of uniformed men descended on a local park after being alerted to the presence of a corpse in some bushes.

A couple of people who came to Hitchit National Park to hike and enjoy the fresh air were petrified when they suddenly came upon a lifeless body lying in the bushes. They told the 911 operator that they thought it was a woman.

The callers accurately described the «woman»

The frightened callers told the operator that the body was wearing white socks, a pink blouse, and light blue shorts. The dispatcher immediately sent several patrol cars to verify the complaint. At this point, everyone was afraid there had been a homicide and they were prepared for it.

The uniformed officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent the «crime scene» from being corrupted. At a glance, all those present could see the “poor woman” who was almost completely covered in dirt. They waited for the forensic examiner to arrive before they inspected more carefully and that’s when the truth came out.

It was a life-size doll

It was not the body of a human being, but a mannequin. So obviously no murder had taken place. At that point the officers concluded that it was simply trash, although it will be a case they will never forget.

They even named the mannequin. Sheriff RN ‘Butch’ Reece decided to call her “Selena”. On his Facebook page, the officer showed his humorous side. He stated that although «Selena was completely exposed to the cold weather and she didn’t have a good day, she is expected to make a full recovery.»

Warning to those who litter

Of course, ‘Butch’ Reece made it clear that, although they are not going to investigate what they initially believed was a homicide, they are going to try to determine who left «Selena» lying in the open air and in a place where you can’t leave garbage.

He stated that there are appropriate places to dump waste and when it is put where it does not belong, unpleasant things like this often happen. In this case a police operation was deployed with a helicopter all for nothing. Whoever is found responsible will be fined and charged with a misdemeanor. Thanks for reading my story today.
