The magnate Carlos Slim and Francisco Cervantes, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), will attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as president of the United States next Monday.
Francisco Cervantes confirmed that both will participate in the official dinner and will take the opportunity to start conversations with high-ranking U.S. officials.
«We are going to be in Washington, we are also invited to the dinner (…) Yes, engineer Carlos Slim will also be there,» Cervantes stated after the ‘CEO Dialogue’ held at the National Palace.
Carlos Slim, owner of América Móvil, Grupo Carso, and Grupo Financiero Inbursa, is considered one of the wealthiest men in the world.
Claudia Sheinbaum Avoids Confrontation and Prioritizes Dialogue Amid Trade Tensions
In contrast, the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, will not attend the event and Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma will represent the country.
After winning the election, Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico if they do not control the flow of migrants and the trafficking of fentanyl.
Sheinbaum avoided confrontations and committed to dialogue with the upcoming U.S. administration.
The meeting between Mexican and Canadian businessmen occurs amid criticisms from Canadian politicians regarding Chinese imports and trade tensions.
The outgoing Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, even suggested the possibility of excluding Mexico from the USMCA.

The three countries will review the Free Trade Agreement in 2026, an agreement in force since 2020 and negotiated during Trump’s first presidency.
