  • Arturo Guzmán Loera died behind bars.
  • He was El Chapo’s brother.
  • He was killed by another powerful criminal.

His surname, Guzmán Loera, is possibly what condemned him to a tragic end since, in addition to working with the Sinaloa Cartel, he was in charge of helping to raise El Chapo’s children.

Today we look at Chapo Guzmán’s brother who died in prison.

Arturo Guzmán Loera, also known as ‘El Pollo,’ was Joaquín Guzman’s younger brother.

It is rumored that he took care of El Chapo’s children while he was in prison after being arrested on June 9, 1993 on the border of Guatemala.

In 2001, Joaquin Guzman made his first escape from the Puente Grande prison, in Jalisco.

He managed to get out by hiding in a laundry cart. After this, Arturo Guzmán Loera became one of his closest advisors. But their joy would not last long, since months later Mexico City authorities arrested El Pollo in a drug trafficking operation.

He was charged with the promotion, production, trafficking and extraction of cocaine and amphetamines from Mexico to the United States.

He was also accused of creating a 60-yard tunnel built for drug smuggling on the border between Tijuana and San Ysidro.

El Pollo was held in a maximum security prison.

Some analysts interpreted this arrest as the first blow against El Chapo Guzmán in retaliation for his escape from the Puente Grande prison, according to infobae.

El Chapo was worried about his brother and tried by all means to free Arturo Guzmán.

He wanted to plan another spectacular escape like the one he managed during his criminal career before being sentenced to life in prison in the United States.

There was an escape plan for El Pollo

The plan was to use a helicopter, a Bell Textron Ranger 407 that El Chapo had bought, and it would be flown by his trusted pilot ‘El Tinieblo.’

It would fly over the prison yard where El Pollo was and lower a armored chest for Arturito to climb onto.

El Chapo’s idea was to install loudspeakers on the plane to say that there was a bomb in the iron box and that they shouldn’t shoot because another helicopter would come and deactivate it.

The pilot thought the plan was crazy and explained how difficult it would be and El Chapo simply gave up on the idea, according to Notigram.

Shortly after, El Pollo Guzmán, was shot seven times in the La Palma maximum security prison.

The Federal Public Security Agency said that José Ramírez Villanueva, who had been held in the same place since 2002, was responsible for the murder.

The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Mexico reported that El Chapo’s brother had been shot around 7 pm on December 31, 2004.

His body was found in the break room, where he had been shot seven times with a 9mm caliber weapon.

The bullets lodged in his chest, abdomen and spinal cord. After the murder of Guzmán Loera, the Ministry of Prevention and Social Rehabilitation, dependent on the Federal Public Security Agency, opened an investigation to determine how the weapon was brought into the facility.
