  • Over 300 Earthquakes at Kilauea, in Hawaii
  • No Signs of Imminent Eruption
  • Alert Level at Advisory

Over 300 small earthquakes have shaken the Kilauea volcano, according to reports from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO).

Despite the intense seismic activity, officials have assured that the volcano is not currently erupting.

«This earthquake count is more than triple the rate of several days ago, reflecting a seismic swarm that began with M2.9 and M3.4 earthquakes on the afternoon of June 27,» they said in the HVO update.

«Inflationary ground deformation continues around the summit, but rates have slowed in recent days,» they added.

The tremors have been primarily concentrated beneath the southern caldera of Kilauea at depths ranging from 1 to 1.8 miles, scientists reported.

Since the eruption approximately nine hours ago on June 3, magma has been increasing pressure in the storage system beneath Halemaumau and the southern caldera region.

This Kilauea eruption has triggered a series of earthquakes in the upper East Rift Zone and the caldera south of Halemaumau.

«At this time, it is not possible to say whether this increased activity will lead to an intrusion or eruption in the near future or will simply continue as deep seismic activity.»

HVO (Hawaiian Volcano Observatory) experts indicated that the nature and location of these seismic movements can change rapidly, as can the potential for an eruption in Kilauea.

However, they have not detected clear signs of an imminent eruption, according to the Star Advertiser.

Despite the absence of immediate indications of an eruption, the volcano’s alert level remains at advisory.

Scientists continue to closely monitor Kilauea’s activity, acknowledging the potential for these events to evolve quickly.

This recent increase in seismic activity has kept residents and local authorities on edge, reminding everyone of the unpredictable but fascinating nature of Hawaii’s volcanoes.

The scientific community remains vigilant for any significant changes that might indicate a shift in the conditions in Kilauea, including another eruption.
