The 2022 Emmy Awards are a few weeks away and, according to media reports, this year they are making a change. Traditionally, the ceremony was held on a Sunday but this year, they will air on a Monday for the first time.

Because of the Covid pandemic, the awards honoring outstanding TV in the US experienced problems due to health safety protocols. This year NBC will air them on Monday, September 12.

Streaming programs are gaining popularity in the 2022 Emmy Awards. Historically, they nominated shows that aired on the four major US broadcast networks. With the arrival of cable and streaming services such as: HBO, Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu and more, the Emmys have evolved and diversified.

This year, the Emmy Awards air their 74th ceremony on Monday, September 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. It starts at 8 p.m. and will air on NBC and stream on Peacock.

What you should know about the Emmys

Although the televised ceremony is the main one due to the large number of stars that come together to attend the awards, with a total of 118 categories, only 25 will be given live on September 12. The rest will be distributed between September 3 and 4 and that can be seen on September 10 on FXX.

This year’s host of the 2022 Emmy Awards, who is generally a comedian, will be Kenan Thompson, a veteran of Saturday Night Live. It will be his first time hosting the ceremony.

Who are the 2022 Emmy nominees?

According to the AP, some previous winners are competing again in the main categories, including Ted Lasso, which won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2021, and Succession, which took the award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2020. It did not air during the eligibility period for 2021, when The Crown won.

There are also newcomers like the dystopian drama Squid Game and the comedy-thriller series Only Murders in the Building. Among the nominated actors, those hoping to repeat wins include Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis, Hacks’ Jean Smart and Euphoria’s Zendaya.

With more than 17,000 voting members, the television academy decides its nominees and winners in 14 categories including drama, comedy and limited series. Acting awards, including Lead, Supporting and Guest Actor, are determined by peers, as are Directing, Writing and other Outstanding Achievement categories.
