The largest supermarket chain in the world has issued a warning for all its customers after removing a line of bedroom furniture from its stores. The product has been purchased by thousands of customers and dozens have reported injuries.
The Sun reported that Walmart has decided to withdraw the product for the well-being of its customers and to prevent more people from being injured after purchasing the the Murphy beds that were sold under several different brand names.
Walmart issues warning and withdraws product from its stores
These beds, manufactured by Cyme Tech, were withdrawn from Walmart on September 8. The decision to pull the product was made after a warning was issued by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Given this, The Sun reported that approximately 8,200 beds were sold between February 2014 and May 2022 under different name brands such as: Ivy Bronx, Orren Ellis, Stellar Home Furniture and Wade Logan. Filed Under: Walmart recalls product
Customers reported that beds that have caused injuries
At the time that Walmart decided to withdraw the full and queen size beds from its shelves, they explained the reason for the recall, stating that the Murphy beds cause «serious impact and crushing risks» resulting in dozens of injuries.
«Wall beds can break or detach from the wall and fall on those who are nearby,» continues the warning issued by the world’s largest supermarket chain after receiving reports of issues with their Murphy beds. Filed Under: Walmart recalls product
Walmart pulls Murphy beds from its stores
It was revealed that Cyme Tech has received 146 reports detailing issues with their Murphy beds. The most frequent complaint was that they fall or break. Unfortunately 62 of those incidents reported by customers resulted in injuries, some serious.
Customers have reported «broken bones, bruises, lacerations, concussions and other injuries.» The Sun noted that in a safety advisory the company said that «if the bed is not properly assembled or attached to the wall, the bed may separate from the wall and fall.» Filed Under: Walmart recalls product
The Murphy beds were also sold online
The Murphy wall bed models that were recalled from Walmart are: S214 (double, doors installed vertically), S215 (queen size bed), S234 (double bed, doors installed vertically), S235 (queen size bed, doors placed horizontally).
