US health authorities have stated that there is currently no risk of a pandemic from the avian influenza A(H5N1).
This, despite outbreaks in dairy cows across 12 states and at least three human infections this year.

Regarding recent media claims suggesting that the A(H5N1) virus could soon become a pandemic like COVID-19, Robert Redfield, former CDC director during Donald Trump’s administration (2017-2021), recently stated:
«Avian flu will reach humans» and could have a «significant mortality,» potentially between 25 and 50%.
