- Dangerous Swells to Impact Bermuda and the Azores
Hurricane Helene has become the eighth named storm of this year’s Atlantic hurricane season, which officially began on June 1.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a busier-than-average season had been predicted, largely due to the unusually warm ocean temperatures.
Helene, which formed in the eastern Atlantic, has caused concern among meteorologists due to its potential intensification in the coming days.
Meanwhile, a ninth storm developed on Wednesday night and has been named Isaac.
Tropical Storm Isaac Forms in the Atlantic
This morning, @NOAA‘s #GOESEast is closely tracking newly-formed Tropical Storm #Isaac in the Atlantic, Hurricane #Helene in the Gulf, and Hurricane #John in the eastern Pacific. A disturbance near western Africa also has a high chance of becoming a cyclone.

Isaac, as this new storm has been named, is moving through the eastern Atlantic and is expected to gain strength, potentially becoming a hurricane by the end of the week.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has warned that Isaac could significantly impact Atlantic coastlines.

Swells generated by Isaac, combined with a strong wind current from a deep-layer trough, are already affecting certain areas.
These adverse conditions are being felt along parts of Bermuda’s coast, and the swells are expected to reach the Azores by the weekend.
The NHC has issued a warning to populations in these areas about the dangers posed by high waves and strong rip currents.
These swells and resulting rip currents are expected to pose significant risks to anyone on beaches or near coastal areas.
Local authorities and meteorological offices in the affected regions have advised people to stay away from coastal areas and follow emergency services’ guidance.
The impact of these storms on maritime activities and navigation has also raised concerns among authorities.
