Severe storms hit the Plains states this weekend
AccuWeather meteorologists are warning of severe storms that will hit the Plains states through Friday night.
Although the risk of tornadoes is low, the storms pose a significant risk to lives and property.
This is due to strong winds, hail and torrential downpours that could cause flash flooding.
Only a small number of the most intense storms are anticipated to produce brief tornadoes.
Which states will be most affected?
A cool and dry air mass will suppress large-scale severe weather activity from near the Mississippi River to the Atlantic coast for the rest of the week.
This will likely last through the weekend, with some smaller-scale exceptions.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop along a 1,400-mile stretch from Texas to North Dakota.
One of the areas being monitored by meteorologists extends from eastern Colorado and western Texas to western and central Oklahoma and north-central Texas, from Wednesday night through Thursday.
What will happen in Dallas?
Storms that may reach Dallas, a significant metropolitan area and a major airport hub, have the potential to cause major travel disruptions.
Texas could be impacted again later in the week if the storms move towards the Gulf Coast.
Adam Douty, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, provided further insights.
«The vast majority of storms in this area will tend to be scattered and will occur from mid-afternoon through the evening hours,» Douty specified.

As a disturbance moves out of the southern Rockies on Thursday, another area of severe thunderstorms could develop, according to AccuWeather.
A more localized region of severe weather could also form in parts of the northern Plains and extend into south-central Canada.
These states are now under severe weather warnings.
