U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that Scott Turner, a former professional football player, will head the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in his upcoming administration.
Turner spent nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL), playing for the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos.
During Trump’s first term, Turner served as the inaugural executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, focusing on aiding underserved communities.
According to the transition team’s statement, his efforts brought approximately $50 billion in private investment to those areas.

Trump highlighted that Turner, a Texas native, is also an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
“He will work with me to make America great again for EVERY American,” said the New York magnate, who also congratulated Turner’s wife and son on the appointment.

“Those efforts, alongside former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, were maximized under Scott’s guidance,” the statement added.
“[This was achieved] by overseeing 16 federal agencies that implemented more than 200 policy actions to promote economic development.”
What Can Be Expected from His Cabinet?
In addition to Scott Turner’s appointment, other candidates for health and national security positions were announced, according to The Associated Press.
Within less than three weeks after the election, Trump has nearly completed his cabinet appointments, though a few key positions remain unfilled.
Donald Trump selected Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer from Oregon as his Secretary of Labor, while Scott Bessent will serve as Secretary of the Treasury.
The president-elect also announced plans to nominate Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget, although the nomination has not yet been confirmed.
