Kristi Noem, the US Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), announced on Sunday the appointment of two new leaders for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This move is aimed at accelerating the deportation of undocumented immigrants.

«We are appointing new ICE leadership to deliver the results that President Trump and the American people rightfully demand,» Noem stated.

Todd Lyons will serve as acting ICE director, while Madison Sheahan has been named deputy director, according to an official DHS statement.

Noem stated that she has Trump’s full support and described Lyons and Sheahan as «workhorses», emphasizing their strong enforcement track record.

She called them «tough enforcers and responsible leaders» who will lead ICE’s men and women in carrying out the American people’s mandate to track down, arrest, and deport undocumented immigrants.

At the end of February, the Trump administration dismissed former interim ICE director Caleb Vitello, who had been personally selected by Trump.

This decision was reportedly due to growing frustration over the slow pace of deportations and are meant to speed them up. Additionally, two other high-ranking officials were also removed.

Kristi Noem further criticized past restrictions on ICE operations, stating that over the past four years, ICE employees were prevented from doing their jobs.

She argued that ICE needs a culture of accountability, claiming it had been deprived of this under the Biden administration.

Noem’s remarks come amid reports from U.S. media.

They state that DHS has been using polygraph tests on some employees to identify leaks regarding ICE raids and federal operations targeting undocumented immigrants.

Kristi Noem and Trump’s «Border Czar,» Tom Homan, have blamed ICE’s lower-than-expected detention numbers on these security breaches.

Leaked information reportedly included dates and locations of immigration raids, according to EFE.

Todd Lyons previously served as ICE’s associate executive director, overseeing enforcement and deportation operations.

Madison Sheahan, a former aide to Noem during her tenure as Governor of South Dakota, was most recently Louisiana’s Secretary of Wildlife and Fisheries.
