Americans may be eligible to receive a portion of a multi-million-dollar settlement following a cyberattack on a medical provider.

Up to $7,500 is available for eligible claimants from an $18.5 million fund.

The deadline to apply for this compensation is nearing, creating urgency among those affected.

East River Medical Imaging was part of a class-action lawsuit in New York after a data breach.

Hackers accessed patients’ personal information between August and September 2023.

Class members accused the clinic of failing to adequately protect their private data.

The stolen information includes Social Security numbers, contact details, and even medical imaging results.

According to the lawsuit, the radiology center could have prevented the attack with stronger digital security measures.

Although East River Medical did not admit liability, it agreed to a settlement to conclude the litigation.

Anyone whose information was compromised can seek financial compensation.

Eligible claimants can choose between reimbursement for expenses or a prorated cash payment.

Those opting for reimbursement can receive up to $7,500 for losses related to the attack.

To obtain this compensation, affected individuals must provide proof of their expenses, such as bank statements or invoices.

Those not seeking reimbursements can opt for a prorated payment from the remaining settlement fund.

Additionally, all claimants will receive one year of credit monitoring to detect potential fraud.

The deadline to file a claim over the medical data breach is October 22, leaving little time to apply.

Those who did not exclude themselves from the lawsuit before August 23 will lose their right to receive compensation.

Class-action lawsuits allow affected individuals to join forces in seeking justice against large corporations.

Despite not admitting guilt, many companies prefer to settle to avoid higher legal costs.
