Immigrants have been accused of stealing thousands of dollars through credit card cloning.
A federal court has charged six immigrants with stealing over $300,000 through credit card cloning.
The Office of the District Attorney of Rhode Island revealed that the scam was executed by undocumented individuals from Romania, England, and Ireland.
Armando Ion Codreanu, Isabela Ignat Codreanu, Robby Vicson Codreanu, Mila Ciuciu, and Nicolas Longin Codreanu are the undocumented individuals who are now behind bars.
Immigrants Engaged in Credit Card Cloning
However, authorities are still searching for Ionut Zamfir, who has an outstanding arrest warrant.
The fraud was executed, according to investigations, through ATMs and point-of-sale terminals in retail stores.
Through skimming devices, the foreigners obtained financial information from their victims.
The accused allegedly used the stolen card information to create new cards.
Using the New Cards to Withdraw Cash
They then used these new cards to withdraw cash and make fraudulent purchases, according to authorities.
Agents found security footage of the suspects installing skimming devices in Rhode Island and Washington.

The ambition of the accused seemingly went further, leading them to move across four other states.
Court documents indicate that cloning devices were found in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.
Defrauding Thousands of US Residents

In these locations, authorities recovered 22 devices at branches of a major retail store, whose name was not disclosed.
«These six individuals were part of an organization that defrauded thousands of residents,» highlighted agent Michael J. Krol.
The criminal operation was detected in October 2023 by Bristol police. The first cloning devices were recovered from ATMs at a local bank.
Authorities are still investigating the extent and magnitude of the fraud, and the investigation remains active.
Authorities Have Security Camera Footage of the Undocumented Immigrants Committing the Crimes
All accused are preparing for their first court appearance.
Three of the accused face charges of conspiracy to commit device access fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
Meanwhile, Isabela Ignat Codreanu, Robby Vicson Codreanu, and Mila Ciuciu were charged with conspiracy to commit device access fraud.
Among the collected evidence against them, authorities presented security camera footage showing them installing and removing the cloning devices.
