The 2018 Dodge Demon may go down in history as the most powerful muscle car of the internal combustion era… or it may not. According to Fox News the car company may be cooking up a new and powerful vehicle with a peculiar feature in its engine.

Only 3,300 of the limited-edition coupes were sold in North America, all of them powered by an 808-horsepower version of Dodge’s supercharged Hellcat V8. And it was also available with a “Demon Crate” packed with racing accessories that included a powertrain control module that tuned it to run on 100-octane racing fuel and deliver 840 horsepower.

Dodge may be cooking up a new muscle car

Since then, Dodge has introduced the Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak Challenger with an 807-horsepower Hellcat engine, intentionally keeping it just below the Demon so the Demon holds its own. But now there are rumors that a new king may soon be crowned, Fox News reported.

According to the report, sources familiar with the project said the goal is to surpass the impressive 840-horsepower mark of its previous muscle car. Dodge has not confirmed that this car is in development, but it is in the middle of a campaign it calls «Never Lift», in which new versions of the Challenger will be introduced through next year, leading up to the launch of its first fully electric muscle car.

After that, Fox News explained, the Hellcat will return to where it came from, as the next generation Challenger is expected to include a mix of electrification and more efficient engines that could include a more powerful version of the turbocharged inline-six than it currently has and it is available on various Jeep models.

Ford has sold 26,244 Mustangs so far, and is picking up steam with June sales of 4,647, more than double last year, while the Challenger is close behind with 25,682 units and the Chevrolet Camaro in third place with 11,255 deliveries so far in 2022.
