Actor Dick Van Dyke and singer Cher are among the thousands of people evacuated in California due to a wildfire in the Malibu area.

Local media report that more than 6,000 residents have been forced to leave their homes as flames rapidly spread through the region.

Van Dyke, who turns 99 this Friday, evacuated his home with his wife Arlene and their pets when the fire, named Franklin, threatened their community.

“Arlene and I evacuated safely with our animals, except for Bobo, who ran off as we were leaving,” the actor stated, expressing hope that their cat would return unharmed.

“We are praying for his safety and for our Serra Retreat community to survive these terrible fires,” he added.

Cher was also evacuated with her pets on Monday night. Her publicist confirmed that the singer is staying in a hotel as the fire remains out of control.

The fire has consumed more than 2,200 acres in less than 24 hours, affecting the Pacific Coast and forcing the closure of schools and roads in Malibu.

Authorities have issued a red flag warning due to strong winds of up to 120 km/h, which significantly increase the risk of the fire spreading further.

Several other celebrities, including actress Mira Sorvino and singer Barbra Streisand, have also been evacuated during this disaster.

Sorvino took to social media to share her experience, stating that they evacuated “in the middle of the night, with children and pets accounted for.” She also offered prayers for the safety of other Malibu residents.
