The 14-year-old accused of opening fire at a Georgia high school, identified as Colt Gray, denied making previous threats during a police interrogation last year.

Despite concerns raised by his online comments, investigators found insufficient evidence to arrest him at the time.

Gray has been charged as an adult for the deadly shooting that occurred on Wednesday in a suburb of Atlanta, where four people lost their lives and nine others were injured.

He is accused of using an assault rifle to kill two students and two teachers in a hallway near his algebra classroom.

The teenager had already been interviewed in May 2023 by a police investigator from Jackson County after receiving a tip from the FBI.

People in Australia and California had alerted authorities about a user in a Discord chat group who had threatened a school shooting.

Although Gray denied the allegations, the investigator suggested that the boy’s father lock up his firearms and keep him away from school until the matter was resolved, according to AP.

The Georgia shooting is the latest in a series of tragic attacks in U.S. schools, sparking heated debates about gun control, though little has changed in federal law.

Parents and communities are increasingly concerned about this reality, and active shooter drills have become a routine part of school life.

Apalachee High School canceled classes on Thursday, although some residents, like Linda Carter, visited the site to lay flowers and pay their respects.

Carter, who lives near the school but has no children attending, expressed her grief and shock:

«These children shouldn’t have lost their lives. These parents, these teachers, shouldn’t have lost their lives yesterday.»
