Marka Bodine admitted to having sex with the boy in her car and in the classroom on multiple occasions, according to Blaze Media. The abuse was discovered when the teacher informed the school that her former student was sending her messages threatening suicide.

She also accused the boy of accessing her private photos and manipulating the images. The child told the police that his teacher had initiated the «relationship» while she was playing an online video game with him. The abuse lasted approximately three years until the boy reported it to the authorities in 2021.

The sentence that Marka Bodine received

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office stated that Assistant District Attorney Jana Oswald «had asked the judge for a sentence of 20 to 40 years, given the seriousness of her crime and the lasting effects of the crime and the impact on the child’s life,» according to Blaze Media.

Instead, Judge George Glass sentenced the 32-year-old woman to just 60 days in jail and 10 years of probation. Marka Bodine was also ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo therapy. Many were disappointed by the short prison term.

They criticize the judge's verdict

In response to Judge George Glass’s surprise verdict, Jana Oswald told KPRC-TV: “I’m heartbroken for the complainant and his family. I’m really disappointed in the outcome as a prosecutor – a child abuse prosecutor, and I’m disappointed as a citizen of Harris County.»

Dustan Neyland, attorney for Marka Bodine, stated: “The court weighed in on all facts presented regarding the offense conduct as well as any mitigating factors. No case is like another and not every case deserves prison. The court has the obligation to make findings of what is in the best interest of society as well as the victim in determining the sentence and we believe the Judge followed the law and handed down an appropriate punishment.”

Judge George Glass decided to delay Marka Bodine’s jail time for a year. According to the judge, the decision would allow the teacher to take care of her newborn child. Blaze Media reported that the victim was not the father of Bodine’s baby and did not specify who is.

Jennifer Kratky, mother of one of Marka Bodine’s former students, said the community deserves to know why the teacher received what they believe was a light sentence. «Discovering that she was only given 60 days, it’s incredible,» the witness told the media, according to Inside Edition.
