  • New details of the Uvalde tragedy are coming to light.
  • A police officer was aiming at the shooter before he entered the school.
  • Could the massacre have been prevented?

Uvalde police officer was aiming at the school shooter. Almost two months after the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, where a man killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary, new details about that tragic day continue to emerge. Now, some are saying that the shooting could have been prevented.

On May 24 Salvador Ramos entered the elementary school and began shooting children and teachers in two classrooms. Several children, between 9 and 10 years old, were killed in addition to two teachers who defended their students.

According to The Austin Statesman, an officer likely could have prevented the tragedy, since he was aiming his rifle at Salvador Ramos before he entered the school. But while the officer waited for permission to fire the shot, the killer continued inside where he unleashed a massacre.

Over the last few weeks, the Uvalde police have been in the eye of the storm, since many say that they could have acted much earlier and thus prevented the tragedy. It’s still unclear if those are just assumptions caused by the pain of many families who lost their little ones in the shooting.

A new report detailing how police officers responded to the Robb Elementary School shooting has come to light. One of the policemen had Salvador in his sight, but he didn’t fire because he was waiting for authorization from his superiors.

The document states that when he didn’t receive a response, the officer «turned around to get confirmation from his supervisor,» and «When he turned back to address the suspect, the suspect had already entered.» It also indicates that the officer said he was at a long distance from the shooter and that he was hesitant to open fire. After several minutes, the police entered the building to apprehend Ramos, who was shot in the same place where he murdered the children. But the mistakes made by the officers at the time of executing the rescue have been dissected.

Similarly, the 28-page report was requested by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which is in charge of investigating the actions of the police. More details have emerged about how the police could have prevented the massacre. Filed Under: Police Uvalde looks murderer

The report also stresses the options the officers had to potentially apprehend the shooter once he was inside the classroom. One of them was to break into the wing through the windows. It was also revealed that they had many more weapons than previously stated, including tear gas canisters.

The report also concluded, based on an audio analysis of the footage, that the gunman fired around 100 rounds in the first three minutes he was at the school. So if the officer had shot him, he likely could have prevented this massacre. Filed Under: Police Uvalde looks murderer

‘Lost momentum’

The analysis also shows that the officers present “lost momentum” when the shooter fired at them, so they waited for more officers to arrive. “Ideally, the officers would have returned fire when the attacker began shooting at them,” the report says, according to EFE.

“Holding position or even moving to a better spot to return fire accurately would certainly have been dangerous, and there would have been a high probability that some officers would have been shot or even killed. However, it is likely that the officers would also have been able to apprehend the attacker and then focus on providing immediate medical attention to the injured,” the report highlights.
