Marisela Castro, a 39-year-old trans woman, was shot to death in Houston, Texas and the authorities are looking for those responsible for the crime. The Houston Police Department (HPD) needs the help of the Hispanic community to be able to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrators.

The Hispanic LGBTQ community of Houston, Texas, is deeply shocked after the murder of Marisela Castro and, together with her family, they ask that someone step forward with information about the murderer who shot her in cold blood, in the middle of the street.

The report from the HPD Homicide Division details that on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 1:45 a.m., Marisela Castro was driving with a couple of friends in her car through the intersection of Wood Shadows Drive and Centerwood Drive, in the eastern Houston metropolitan area.

Arriving at that intersection, Marisela Castro stopped her car for some reason. She and one of the two men who were with her got out of the vehicle together. Then came the tragedy. The man pulled out a gun and shot Marisela Castro in the back.

After the shots, Marisela Castro collapsed in the street badly wounded. The alleged murderer jumped into the Chrysler 200, while his accomplice got behind the wheel. The two men sped away from the scene of the shooting. Later, the car was abandoned in a canal.

Some neighbors who heard the shots called 911 to report the shooting. The first to arrive on the scene were the Firefighters of the Houston Police Department (HFD) who attended to Marisela Castro, who was badly injured.

However, Castro could not be saved and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the HPD Homicide Division have video from a home security camera showing details of the crime.

The HPD Homicide Division asks the community that if anyone has clues about the whereabouts and identity of Marisela Castro’s killers, to contact their office at 713.308.3600 or the non-profit organization Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713.222. 8477. All tips will remain anonymous.

Marisela Castro was an immigrant from Honduras in Texas. Her sister, Keidy Castro started a GoFundMe called Help for funeral services to ask for help covering the costs of funeral services after the brutal crime.

«Let’s end the hatred towards transgender people and the LGBTQ community… help me raise funds for the funeral services of my sister Marisela Castro, who in life was Nelson Castro… let’s raise our voices to end all racism towards LGBTQ people, no more murders please,” ends the plea.

The shooting death of immigrant Marisela Castro in Texas is one of thousands of incidents involving firearms. The organization National Archive on Gun Violence reported that so far in 2022, 26,941 people have already died in shooting incidents.

As of Monday, August 8, 2022, of those people shot to death in the United States, a total of 12,355 were murdered and 14,586 committed suicide. The country has already suffered 406 mass shootings, in which at least four people were shot dead in the same event.
