US safety regulators have opened three investigations into safety issues with around 1.65 million vehicles made by Stellantis, which markets various brands including Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler, according to ABCNews on Tuesday, July 26.

The largest investigation covers 1.34 million Jeep Cherokee small SUVs  from 2014 to 2020. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it has 80 complaints that electronic parking brakes may activate while those vehicles are in motion.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted that the complaints allege that water can get into the computer that controls the brakes. Another investigation covers 289,000 Dodge Trip and the Jeep CompassPatriot small SUVs from 2016 due to 127 complaints of engine stalling due to crankshaft or camshaft sensor issues.

The agency noted that Fiat Chrysler issued a recall or withdrawal in 2016 for a similar problem. It is now being investigated whether the recent problem is occurring with vehicles not included in that recall, ABC News reported reviewed, citing the AP news agency.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also said it has 40 complaints of a transmission problem causing Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid minivans to lose power. The research covers 21,000 vans from model years 2019 to 2021.

The report indicated that the investigations could lead to ordering recalls or withdrawals from the market, but so far the agency has not announced any. In the three cases, no crashes or injuries have been reported. Stellantis, which was formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and France’s PSA Peugeot, said it is cooperating with the investigations.
