On Monday, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reported that the execution of Ramiro Gonzáles will be delayed, just days from its scheduled date. According to the document that was made official this afternoon, the delay in his sentence was not due to his request to donate a kidney, but because the professional evaluation that was previously done is being questioned.

The Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty reported that Gonzales’ execution will be delayed in a recent tweet. Regardless of his request to donate a kidney, thousands of people signed a petition asking Greg Abbott to stop the execution, which was scheduled for July 13.

The Death Row Watcher account announced that the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals had granted the stay, because a psychiatrist who treated Gonzales did not make a true evaluation. They also pointed out that unreliable data was used to predict whether the defendant would commit more crimes if freed.

“Texas — The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has granted a stay of execution to #RamiroGonzales. The stay was due to the fact that the psychiatrist that deemed Gonzales to be a future danger used now-unreliable data on recidivism and sexual assault.»

Although Ramiro Gonzáles’ request was initially denied by the authorities, and it was established that his execution date would not change, his lawyers were hopeful that there was still a possibility of delaying the execution for a short time because there are two compatible recipients who could benefit from the kidney donation.

According to CNN, two people have been identified who could benefit from organ donation. One of them appears to be a cancer survivor in Bellingham, Washington, with the same rare blood type as Gonzalez, and who has waited about four years in «hope for a life-saving kidney transplant.»

The denial of his request for organ donation is due to the fact that the execution date was too close to the organ donation request. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice objected to Ramiro Gonzáles’ wish, though he was allowed to carry out the preliminary health studies. Unfortunately the first person who was targeted for his donation did not share his blood type, CNN reported.

The agency objected to an altruistic kidney donation because it could introduce an «uncertain timeline, thereby possibly interfering with the court-ordered execution date,» Gonzales’ attorneys said of the response they got, according to CNN. Filed Under: They reject execution Ramiro Gonzáles
