  • Pablo Escobar’s race car is a luxury model.
  • He bought it in the 70s.
  • He used it to compete against Ricardo Londoño in the famous Crepadores de Las Palmas race.

This powerful drug trafficker’s passions included women, luxuries and sports cars. It is said that he acquired the most exclusive models of prestigious brands at exorbitant prices. After his death, most of them were sold, however there is one in particular that no one wants. This is Pablo Escobar’s race car that no one wants to buy.

The leader of the Medellin Cartel’s remarkable hobby was luxury cars, of which he owned a variety that he acquired with the fortune that he accumulated through drug dealing. Before becoming the most feared criminal in the country, Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was a race car driver who competed with his cousin Gustavo Gaviria, a Renault 4 fan.

His participation and success in the illegal drug trade allowed Escobar to acquire incredible racing cars and customize them with the best tools from abroad. One of the capo’s cars was the Porsche 911 RSR (1974) that recently appeared in the Registry of DuPont, an American company that advertises luxury cars, real estate and yachts.

The car, valued at $2.2 million, stands out as a «piece of history». What makes this car even more expensive is its history, and interestingly, it’s not just because of Escobar. Just 15 Porsche 911 RSRs were manufactured in 1974.

The International Race of Champions (IROC) was created at that time and the goal was to get 12 of the best drivers in the world to race in completely identical cars. Each car differs only in the name of the driver, and among them is Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi, who drove the first Porsche 911 that would become the property of Pablo Escobar.

According to Auto Extra, the car passed through the hands of several drivers until in 1978 when it entered the 24 Hours of Daytona, a traditional race in the United States, where the capo fell in love and bought it. A few days later it was delivered to Medellin. Escobar retrofitted the car with the Porsche 935 body and painted it a martini color, that is, white with red and blue stripes.

Developed in Medellin, the Crepadora de las Palmas is a popular car race in Colombia. During Escobar’s competitive years, it was learned that he made a million dollar bet with broker Ricardo Londoño.

According to La Tercera, Londoño bet that he would finish 15 seconds before “El Patron”. He was driving his Chevrolet Camaro, while Escobar was driving his Porsche. Londoño won the race just nine seconds ahead of Escobar.

After Pablo Escobar’s death, this car was kept in various places, and curiously it was not parked in the building in Monaco during Pablo Escobar’s attack when he lost several of his cars to the bullets.

Finally, according to Infobae the car’s owner from a first sale shipped it back to the United States, where it was returned to him with the original likeness of the Brazilian Fittipaldi, painted yellow and with his name on various parts of the car. The car, with its 3.0-litre Flat 6 engine and a range of 225 km, is now owned by Atlantis Motor Group and is being auctioned for $2.2 million via DuPont, where they state that it is, “ready to compete or be part of your collection.” However, since 2021, no buyer has shown any interest in Pablo Escobar’s mythical car.
