Police found a family of five people dead, including two children, in an apparent case of murder-suicide that occurred in a house located southeast of Orlando, Florida, on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 2, according to various media reports.

Officers were called to a home on Lake District Lane for a welfare check at around 1pm. Upon entering, they found the bodies of three adults and two children, who apparently are members of the same family, the New York Post reported in the early hours of Wednesday, August 3.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released while police notify their relatives of the tragedy, the New York Post and The Sun reported.

Justin Rossilini, a neighbor who lives across the street from the two-story house where officers found the dead family, told the Orlando Sentinel that a couple, an adult son and two girls around the age of six and seven lived in the house, according to the Post.

How did they die?

“I have had the last two days off. We have been home. I didn’t hear anything,» Justin Rossilini told the local newspaper, mentioning that the family had just moved in a couple of months ago. A large police presence could be seen Tuesday afternoon in that neighborhood located in the Lake Nona region.

Police did not immediately release the causes of the deaths or what may have led to the murder-suicide. They are investigating the case under that hypothesis, the New York Post and The Sun reported. The authorities did not offer further details because the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Who are the members of the family found dead?

The names and ages of the victims have not yet been released, pending family notification. It was also unclear what led someone to call the police and ask for a welfare check to be carried out on that home, The Sun reported.
