  • A new anti-viral technology is trending in home construction.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of this new technology.
  • A new ceramic boasts anti-viral properties.

The ability to maintain a germ-free home is not limited to adequate disinfection. New technology for home and office construction offers this capability which gives you unparalleled peace of mind.

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of disinfections and, in response to the difficult situation, Grupo LAMOSA has developed BIO-C29, a ceramic with antiviral properties from Copper Nanoparticles (NanCu).

Building with new technology

This solution created in conjunction with Nano Quantum Group SpA produces a protective layer capable of significantly eradicating infectious agents and is available in the BIO-CER product range for home construction.

The concept that guides the formula for use in this line is based on the release of ions generated by copper in the metallic state, producing free radicals with high biocidal capacity. In layman’s terms it kills viruses, bacteria, fungi and yeasts, even working against microorganisms such as the Human Coronavirus 229E, Influenza H1N1, Escherichia Coli, Candida Albicans, Staphylococcus Areus and Aspergillus Niger.

«copper is known worldwide for its bactericidal characteristics as it manages to eliminate different types of microorganisms by releasing ions, as well as being the material with the largest spectrum of antimicrobial action, to which is added its antiviral and antifungal capabilities,» explained Mauricio Méndez, industrial director of Cerámica San Lorenzo-Grupo Lamosa.

The functionality of this contribution in the construction of houses is translated into the active agent of copper, and with surfaces made with this material, so it has the possibility of easily eliminating the coronavirus in less than four hours.

This development has been tested by TCNA (Tile Council of North America) and the INTA Laboratory of the University of Chile.

According to the expert, there are different ways that nanoparticles eliminate microorganisms in homes, which can be differentiated into two groups: direct or indirect. In the former, the copper nanoparticle penetrates the membrane of the microorganism to destabilize itself through chemical and biochemical reactions.

And, in the latter, they are related to the catalytic activity of the copper nanoparticle and its ability to release ions of the same material.
