Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, HCSO emergency number received a call about a shooting at the corner of I-45 and Farmer to Marker Road 1960, in north of the Houston metropolitan area.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a motorist on I-45 with his two-year-old son in the back seat had an altercation with a couple in a pickup truck. The couple were Nazly Ortiz and Benjamin Green.

After the confrontation, the man decided to leave the highway heading north when he noticed that the couple, Nazly Ortiz and Benjamin Green, were chasing him at full speed in their truck. The man stopped his car on the side road at a traffic light. At that moment Ortiz lost control of her actions.

Nazly Ortiz and Benjamin Green stopped their truck in front of the other man’s car at a red light in front of a car dealership. Ortiz and Green got out of their truck in a rage. The man then noticed that Nazly Ortiz was carrying a gun in her right hand.

The victim ran through the red light to get away from the irate couple. However, Nazly Ortiz raised the gun and fired at least two shots at the man who was driving away with his son in the back seat. A shot hit the car but did not injure the occupants. The other bullet hit a vehicle from the car sales lot.

A woman who was parked behind Nazly Ortiz and Benjamin Green’s truck at the time of the shooting recorded the entire rampage on her cell phone. HCSO troopers responded to the scene of the crime and apprehended the couple as they tried to escape.
