When it comes to love, Humberto Elizondo shared that just a few months ago he ended a romantic relationship which he defined as «wonderful.» He added that he was in love like a «teenager» but it was not meant to be.

“Right now I don’t need a girlfriend, I need a caregiver. Having a girlfriend or having a partner is a responsibility, it implies attention and everything else, and I am always working and my physical capacity is not the same. I have a disease called COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), so a caregiver is better,” revealed the Mexican actor.

After he made it clear why his romantic relationship ended, Humberto Elizondo was asked about his mother, Fanny Kaufman’s ashes and he replied: «My mother sleeps next to me. We always had problems because she has a very strong personality and so do I, and it was hard for us.”

“After her death, we finally managed to live together. What’s more, we even slept together. I have her next to my headboard. Yes (I miss her), but I talk to her. In the Jewish religion, the mother is very important. The matriarchy is total. I talk to my mother every day,” said the actor, who is a few months away from turning 75 years old.

Like actors Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo and Raquel Pankowsky, Humberto Elizondo has to be connected to an oxygen tank, which is used to provide low-flow oxygen therapy to patients with respiratory failure. The Mexican actor issued a serious warning….

«Don’t smoke, please don’t smoke. (For 20 years) I smoked a pack a day and there are people who have smoked more and nothing has happened to them, but please, don’t smoke, it’s death. Don’t smoke. COPD has no cure and it does get worse,” he said, still unable to avoid laughing at the seriousness of the situation.

In good spirits, the son of Fanny Kaufman, commented that we all take breathing and walking for granted, but we shouldn’t: “A series of muscles, a series of systems, have to work well so that you can walk and so you can breathe,” said Humberto Elizondo.

“It’s not until you start to have difficulty breathing that you realize how beautiful it is to breathe. You think it’s natural, but no, take care, don’t smoke. (A long time ago) They operated on my lung, they sent the nodule to histopathology and they told me I had cancer, they put a devise in me and after six days they told me: ‘look no, we were wrong’, I lived six days with cancer and with a device which was port for chemotherapy.”

And when no one expected it, Humberto Elizondo revealed that he spent 27 days in an induced coma due to COPD: “Suddenly, I did not exchange gases, I became intoxicated and filled with carbon dioxide, so I arrived at the hospital almost hallucinating with 31 oxygenation and they had to intubate me and put me into a coma.”

“They told my children: ’90 percent die, ten percent live.’ And my father God left me here. I live with Covid, the problem with Covid is that people cannot breathe, in fact I live with Covid, but you learn, even now we have been talking for a while and I have not coughed. There is a great therapy here, the cameras and the microphone.»

Nearing the end of the interview in which he revealed that he suffers from an incurable disease, Humberto Elizondo acknowledged that «he has lived a marvelous life» and he can’t complain about his health: «You have to learn,» said the actor, who also has issues with his spine.

«Do you know what is the worst? There should be a subject in school that teaches us what happens when we get old. They don’t teach us. We think we’re never going to get old, or you don’t even think about it, and suddenly you arrive and everything is a surprise. If you arrive with chronic diseases, worse. There should be a subject in school: ‘Prepare for old age,'» concluded the Mexican actor.

Before saying goodbye, Humberto Elizondo wanted to address young actors, asking them to do «the old man’s tax.» This consists of taking ten percent of their income and depositing it in the bank and not touching it at all for 20 or 30 years. “When they reach my age, they go to work because they want to, not because they need to.”

“What he said about the school is very true. In it they teach a lot of useless things that in the end we don’t use or learn. They must teach what happens when one is older; the expenses, difficulties, they must teach not to hurt living beings (animals) and other things,” commented a user. (TO SEE THE VIDEO CLICK HERE)
