In many Latin American countries, initiating romantic relationships involving an adult and a minor is seen as normal and very rarely punished under the law, especially when it is considered consensual. However, in the United States, these kinds of acts are considered highly illegal and are severely punished.

Apparently, 19-year-old Robin Velásquez Pérez and 20-year-old Ángel Salcido did not know about this. Unfortunately for them, ignorance of the law in this country does not exempt one from being punished for violating it. Robin and Angel supposedly didn’t realize that they couldn’t date young girls.

He wanted to introduce his ‘girlfriend’ to his relatives

On Wednesday, Robin was arrested on charges of rape. Mississippi authorities say he took a 13-year-old girl without parental consent to a house in another state to introduce her to his relatives. Police in the city of Covington, Kentucky, rescued her the next day.

The investigation began when the girl’s parents reported her missing to Ridgeland authorities. The detectives tracked the minor’s cell phone and located it in a house in Covington, so they notified their colleagues there, who mobilized and went to get her. Robin confessed his wrongdoing

According to the police, when they found the girl, they questioned her and she said she wasn’t there against her will. However, due to her young age, she wasn’t legally able to make those decisions, so they returned her to her parents. As for Robin, he did end up in jail.

It turns out that, upon questioning Robin Velásquez Pérez, he confessed to them that he had slept with the girl the night before and had had sexual relations with her. He was arrested on the spot on charges of rape and parental interference. Ángel Salcido did something very similar

Ángel’s case is quite similar to Robin’s, with the only difference being that he did not leave Kansas, the state where they both lived. However, he did pursue a 14-year-old girl knowing that he was six years older than her and that he is considered an adult, while she is still a child. This makes the relationship is not only prohibited, but also illegal.

Despite this, he convinced her to live with him in his house. That relationship did not last long because after two days the police of the city of Wichita located them to rescue her and arrest him.
