Officer S. Sullinger was patrolling the 210 eastbound freeway in Glendora looking for carpool violators, and what would be his surprise to notice a suspicious man inside a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which had tinted windows, something considered to be illegal.

The officer discovered that the passenger was a fake when the man rolled down his car window.

Rodrigo Jiménez, officer of the California Highway Patrol, commented to The Angels Daily News that the man has been driving a dummy in the carpool for over a year.

The driver was reportedly cited for the carpooling violation, but the mannequin was not confiscated. There is no additional penalty for attempting to mislead officers by placing a mannequin in the passenger seat.

Both Rodrigo Jiménez and officer S. Sullinger agreed that someone using a mannequin to carpool was the most realistic attempt at deception they had ever seen: «I thought I had seen it all, but I guess not,» Jiménez concluded.

New traffic laws go into effect TODAY in multiple states

From this July 1, Indiana and Ohio will apply new traffic laws and drivers must be vigilant to avoid facing consequences.

Ohio

As of July 1, it will no longer be necessary for most vehicles to carry the license plate on the front, local television station Fox 8 in Cleveland reported.

The law had been signed by Governor Mike DeWine more than a year ago. HB 62 only allows the license plate to be placed on the rear of the vehicle, according to the Department of Public Safety.

However, in the case of commercial trucks, the license plate must be worn on both the rear and the front. The Ohio Department of Public Safety reminded drivers that failing to license the new way will be considered a misdemeanor and liability offense.

Several states, including those bordering Ohio, do not require the license plate on the front of the vehicle.

Those in favor of the new law said it would make it easier to buy and sell cars and recognize the changing landscape of automotive design; opponents said having a faceplate doubles the chance that criminals will be caught by the police.

Indiana

While in Indiana drivers will have to say goodbye to the habit of walking with the phone in hand while they are behind the wheel. As of July 1, this practice will be illegal.

«Drivers who prefer to pay more attention to the cell phone than behind the wheel have the same similarity as those who drive while intoxicated,» compared Indiana State Police senior patrolman Nick Klingkammer, according to local television station Fox 59.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed the new law in early March. The only thing that will be allowed are emergency calls.

Klingkammer said authorities would have to see the cell phones with evidence that they were used to enforce the law.
