  • King’s Hawaiian orders urgent recall of breads and pretzel products in the US.
  • The recall comes after a massive recall by the Lyons Magnus company.
  • The recall includes three products.

King’s Hawaiian ordered an urgent recall of breads and pretzels in the United States because they could be contaminated with bacteria. The King’s Hawaiian bread company has issued a recall of three of its pretzel bread products, warning shoppers that there is a risk that they may be contaminated with bacteria.

The recall comes days after the massive withdrawal of hundreds of Lyons Magnus products and beverages that could be contaminated with same two dangerous bacteria: Cronobacter sakazakii and Clostridium botulinum, according to BGR.

King’s Hawaiian also indicated that its affected products may be contaminated by the two bacteria reported in the Lyons Magnus recall. The bakery issued the recall for items after Lyons Magnus updated its initial recall action.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a press release about the King’s Hawaiian recall. «King’s Hawaiian is voluntarily recalling its Pretzel Slider Buns, Pretzel Hamburger Buns, and Pretzel Bites products out of an abundance of caution after the recall of an ingredient used in pretzel products from one of its suppliers, Lyons Magnus,» the FDA said.

Precautionary recall?

«Lyons Magnus is recalling this ingredient due to the potential for it to cause microbial contamination, including Cronobacter sakazakii and Clostridium botulinum organisms,» the FDA said, adding that no illnesses associated with King’s Hawaiian pretzel bread have been reported at this time, and to date no pathogens have been found in any King’s Hawaiian product.

Both the company and the FDA indicated that the product recall was done out of an abundance of caution and to safeguard the health and security of its consumers. To find out the UPC and batch codes to look for in your products and check if they are included in the recall, click HERE.

King’s Hawaiian noted that the recall of its pretzel buns does not affect any other products except those mentioned that use the potentially contaminated ingredient from Lyons Magnus.

«King’s Hawaiian will resume production of all pretzel products once the company has ensured all current product has been scrapped and confirmed the safety of all ingredients,» the FDA said.
