The San Antonio Fire Department (SAPD) was the first department to arrive at the house at the intersection of Waverly Street and Culebra Road, which was engulfed in flames. After struggling with the flames for a while, firefighters brought the inferno under control.

A Fire Marshal from the SAFD, who by law in Texas is in charge of carrying out the investigation in relation to this type of incident, went into the house. The search of the place after the fire was led to the discovery of the mysterious crime committed by John Bishop Torres and Juan Antonio Reyes

Upon inspecting the bodies, it was determined that they had both been shot to death. The deceased were identified as Rachel Martínez and Sergio Soto.

Detectives from the SAPD Homicide Division were dispatched to the home to investigate the brutal homicide of Rachel Martinez and Sergio Martinez. The detectives reported that the bodies of the two people were found in the back of the house.
