James said the following in his last moments: «To all my family and friends, lawyers, everyone who’s been around me and loved me, thank you.» But that was not the only thing, as he also sent a message to Governor Kevin Stitt who rejected Coddington’s request for a pardon on Wednesday.

«Governor Stitt, I don’t blame you and I forgive you,» were the last words the Oklahoma prisoner said before receiving the lethal injection on Thursday. KSN indicated that James Allen gave his lawyer Emma Rolls, a thumbs up while she wept silently in the witness room.

On Wednesday, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Sitt rejected a request for clemency from the prisoner, despite the fact that a government panel recommended against proceeding with the execution in early August. Filed Under: James Coddington Oklahoma Execution

The Associated Press reported that Governor Sitt had stated that “after thoroughly reviewing the arguments and evidence presented by all parties to the case, Governor Kevin Stitt has denied the Board of Pardons and Paroles recommendation for clemency for James Allen Coddington”

It was reported that during a clemency hearing that took place earlier this month before the five-member state Board of Pardons and Paroles, Coddington, 50, apologized to Hale’s family and said that today he is a totally different man. Filed Under: James Coddington Oklahoma Execution

«I’m clean, I know God, I’m not… I’m not a ruthless killer,» Coddington told the board. «If this ends today with my death sentence, fine,» the 50-year-old added. Mitch Hale, the victim’s son who had urged the parole board not to recommend clemency, said he was relieved by Stitt’s decision.

“Our family can put this behind us after 25 years. Nobody is happy that someone is dying, but (Coddington) chose this path… he knew what the consequences were, he rolled the dice and lost,” said Hale, 64, before the board. Filed Under: James Coddington Oklahoma Execution

The EFE agency stated that Oklahoma reapplied death sentences at the end of 2021, after the Supreme Court lifted an injunction that suspended executions in the state for five years. Coddington is the fifth inmate to be executed since the practice resumed.

The state has already set execution dates for 25 of the 43 prisoners on death row and scheduled one execution per month between August this year and December 2024. Executions in the state have come under scrutiny since found in 2015 that authorities used the wrong drug on an inmate. Filed Under: James Coddington Oklahoma Execution.
