Alberto Gurrola Castro, goalkeeping coach for the Mexican National Team, apparently passed away from cancer that was diagnosed in 2020. However, he was thought to have already overcome it, which is why the news of his sudden death fell more heavily on the young athlete’s acquaintances, according to Cero Cero.

On June 26 the tragedy in the world of Mexican soccer was revealed. Alberto Gurrola Castro was barely 29 years old, a very young age for a goalkeeper coach, if one takes into account that goalkeepers retire after 40. However, he was already part of the ranks of the Mexican National Team.

His death shocked his fans because he was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 but apparently he had already overcome it, so no one imagined that he would die so suddenly.

The family hasn’t disclosed the cause of his death, but it is assured that in the next few days the results of the autopsy that was performed after his death will be released. For now, however, there are questions regarding what really happened to the young athlete, goalkeeper Alberto Gurrola Castro.

The Mexican Soccer Federation announced the news and sent condolences to his family: “The FMF mourns the death of Alberto Gurrola Castro, goalkeeper coach of the Minor Teams in the Mexican National Team. We join the sorrow that seizes his family and friends. May he rest in peace.»

His brother, José, could not bear his sadness and immediately posted a message on social media expressing his pain: “I will never be able to say goodbye to you, I will only tell you see you soon Brother. Other soccer clubs joined in the sorrow when they heard the news of the death of the Mexican soccer player. Club Atlética la Paz wrote: “Last June 25 at the age of 29 Alberto Gurrola Castro, goalkeeper coach for minor teams in the Mexican National Team and brother of José Jesús Gurrola Castro, a friend of this great soccer family, passed away.”

At some point in his career he was considered as a possible successor to Guillermo Ochoa, who is the leader of the America team and an ‘eternal’ figure in the Mexican Soccer Team, but his short career was recognized by many people on social networks and he was in charge of training the lower Tricolor teams. WHO WAS THE GOALKEEPING COACH?

The goalkeeper coach was born on April 9, 1993 in the northern city of Hermosillo, in the state of Sonora. He was a former Mexican goalkeeper who had a short career in professional soccer in the Aztec country. The goalkeeper was trained in the basic forces of the Atlas, and became part of the Mexican Under-20 National Team.

Also known as «Gurro» he was the third goalkeeper for the Tricolor in the 2013 U-20 World Cup that took place in Turkey, a team shared by Gibrán Lajúd and Richard Sánchez.
