Holly Weaver Smith, a North Carolina woman, goes viral on TikTok after making racist remarks about Mexicans, saying they «smell like tacos». Her video has sparked controversy because of the way she talked about Mexicans and insulted them, stating that Mexican food is bad, or of worse quality than that of other countries, according to TV Azteca.

Smith, who reported that she had just returned from a vacation in Mexico, stated that since she’s been back she noticed that she had unpleasant smell, which she says was tacos and enchiladas. She was immediately criticized for her racist comments.

WHY ARE MEXICANS TREATED LIKE THIS?

It’s not the first time that social media has been used to make fun of Mexicans for their appearance, economic condition, skin color, smell, socioeconomic position and even employment. This is something that has also happened to African Americans and it’s a stigma that the US cannot easily remove.

This time it wasn’t a specific person who was targeted, but all of the Mexicans Smith encountered on her vacation. She also complained about Mexican food as she said that it smells bad.

WHAT DID HOLLY WEAVER SMITH SAY?

After revealing that she didn’t have a good experience visiting Mexico, the woman said the following: «I’m not kidding, every time I sweat I get dirty Mexican sweat, it’s like I have tacos under my arms, I’m an enchilada with feet,” declared Smith, who also said that after her trip she smells like “a dirty Mexican”.
