In a twist that would seem unusual, a man who murdered his ex-wife, received ‘benefits’ from a judge who didn’t grant him life imprisonment and, on the contrary, his sentence was lowered for a surprising reason, according to information published on the news portal of Crónica.

The man was identified as Juan Carlos Canteros, 73, a retired federal policeman, while the victim’s name was Rosa Agüero. After an argument with her, the man threw naphtha, a flammable substance, at her.

THE FACTS

The woman was holding a candle, since they had run out of light, which is why it began to burn, due to the injuries, she died. This act should have been sentenced as life imprisonment, but the judge reduced it due to the existence of «extraordinary mitigating circumstances.»

The case attracted attention in the Burzaco area, due to how cumbersome it was, however, despite the efforts of the defense, nothing could be done and the man is serving his sentence today in a local prison.

ASKING FOR 13 YEARS

Prosecutor Marcela Dimundo, from the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) 1 of Lomas de Zamora, was the one who decided to lower the sentence, because she found an extenuating circumstance that practically ‘saved’ the life of the septuagenarian.
