MONEY TO PAY BILLS. New $100 grants to pay for residential electric bills have been announced and you’ll probably be surprised to know that, this time, the help isn’t coming from the government. It’s an initiative by a private company.

The electric company, Ameren Illinois, announced a new $1.75 million grant program with which they intend to help their customers deal with the soaring costs of energy bills.

Inflation and the increase in electricity prices have been lethal for the finances of many Americans. In fact, just in June, Ameren Illinois announced that it would raise its rates in order to keep up with expenses. This means the average customer would have to pay $626 more annually on their energy bills.

“Many of our customers are facing financial challenges due to inflation and rising energy costs,” said Joe Solari, vice president of customer experience for Ameren Illinois, in a statement where he announced the new grant program for their customers. Although of course not everyone qualifies.

Who is eligible for the grants?

The company reported that the $100 payment is intended primarily for military personnel currently on active duty or veterans with disabilities. They also indicated that the objective was to provide financial relief to those citizens who have served their country.

“Our hope is that these grants will provide some economic relief to disabled veterans and those who continue to serve our country,” added Joe Solari when announcing the company’s new Military Support Program to the community.

How to apply for grant?

This unique $100 electricity grant is available to those members of the military who are customers of Ameren, a company that provides electricity service to more than 2 million customers throughout the state of Illinois. Now if you are in the military and an Ameren customer, then you may be wondering what do I need to do to apply?

The company has provided an application form for eligible individuals who are interested in assistance. In the document you will have to offer basic personal information such as name, telephone number and Ameren account number. You will also have to show a document that proves your military service or discharge. PLEASE NOTE: The company has made it clear that only honorably discharged, disabled veterans will be eligible.

$100 for electricity

The company requires that the applicant’s name be directly linked to the Ameren account and to the applicant’s address, which must be the their primary residence. The company will contact you when the application is approved you and will indicate the next steps to follow.

The company hopes to be able to offer the $100 grants to about 1,000 people and explained that they will deliver them on a first-come, first-served basis for the duration of the funding. They also said that households are limited to applying once per calendar year.
