LISTERIA ALERT: Fruits and vegetables are being recalled from stores due to possible listeria contamination, US authorities warn. People who have purchased any of the products linked to the recall should dispose of them immediately.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that the company Fruit Fresh Up, Inc began a voluntary recall of its fresh-cut fruits and vegetables and also its ready-to-eat dips «due to a possible health risk.»

“Fruit Fresh Up, Inc. is voluntarily recalling all ready-to-eat fresh-cut fruit and vegetable products and sauces, as listed below, processed at its Depew, NY production facility due to a potential health risk of Listeria monocytogenes,» announced the company.

In its official statement Fruit Fresh Up detailed that they are issuing this voluntary recall after the results of an environmental program inspection found that some surfaces where the products are packaged were contaminated with the bacteria.

The company explained that “the products subject to the voluntary withdrawal of fresh cut fruits and vegetables are packaged in clear plastic containers with a tamper-evident seal and identified with a “Best If Used By” date between March 5, 2022 and March 23, 2022.

Among the products that are being withdrawn from stores are their ready to eat sauces which, as detailed, come “in 7-ounce transparent plastic containers with an expiration date of March 15, 2022 to March 31, 2022.

Do not consume them!

It is unlikely that the affected packages have reached their expiration dates, but you should still DISPOSE of them because this time it is a risk that you, your family or your customers could be infected with the ferocious bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

«Consumers who still have any of these products in their refrigerators are urged not to consume the product and discard it immediately,» the company warned, despite the fact that «so far no illnesses have been reported with the recalled products.»

Where were the contaminated products sold?

According to health authorities, the products that are being withdrawn from stores due to possible listeria contamination were distributed mainly in the state of New York, but also in several of the neighboring states. If you live in any of these states, it is best to confirm, before consuming any fruit or vegetables.

The company has also asked the retailers that sold the products to «check store shelves and warehouse inventories to confirm that no recalled products are available for purchase by consumers.»

The Food and Drug Administration and the company Fruit Fresh Up have published a complete list of those items that they are taking off shelves as a precaution. Among them are different types of watermelon, pineapple, melon, raspberry, mixed fruits, and Fruit Fresh Up raspberry dip.

It is possible that the product recall could affect the availability of food in some stores in and around New York, including some Wegmans Food Markets supermarket locations. SEE COMPLETE LIST OF WITHDRAWN PRODUCTS HERE.
