- There is a gear problem that could cause the vehicles to roll while in park.

Ford is recalling more than 2.9 million vehicles to fix a gear problem that can increase the risk of unintentional collisions, according to The Associated Press and The Washington Post.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in documents posted on its website Wednesday, June 15, that a bushing that connects the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or come off.
Ford recall exceeds 2 million vehicles
This could prevent vehicles from shifting into the intended gear. A vehicle that is believed to have been shifted into park may be in a different gear, which would allow it to roll while parked.
Ford says in the documents that it is aware of four reports of injuries due to the issue and six other property damage claims. The company has 1,630 warranty reports and 233 complaints about the problem. Filed Under: Recall Ford.
What models are included in the recall?
Ford said it is recalling millions of Escape, Fusion, C-Max, Edge and Transit Connect vehicles from various years due to a possible defect in a part that connects the shifter cable to the transmission, according to The Washington Post.
Dealers will replace the hub and add a protective cap. Owners will be notified by letter beginning June 27. The recall covers certain 2013 to 2019 Escape, 2013 to 2018 C-Max, 2013 to 2016 Fusion, 2013 to 2021 Transit Connect and 2015 to 2018 Edge vehicles. Filed Under: Recall Ford.
How serious is the problem?
“The driver does not receive a warning message signal or audible chime,” Ford said in a regulatory filing filed Friday. Leaving the vehicle in park but without the parking brake set could allow it to keep moving, «increasing the risk of injury or crash,» the company said.
In addition to the problems that vehicles can present when parked, the company said there was another problem. «The driver may also notice the defect if he attempts to shift into an intended gear and the vehicle responds differently than intended,» Ford said. Filed Under: Recall Ford.
